Homeless Longitude

A local zine that I always come across in Bali! It was the first time I've ever submitted my works to be printed. Self-esteem is a pain to manage, But I still remember how the owners told me not to be shy about my work. :)

FAUVE Magazine

This is possibly the most in-depth interview I've ever done... huge thanks to Jul for featuring & making me stay up many nights writing this! lol. But really, I cant do interviews, or anything that requires me to talk about myself with so much detail... excuse me while I retreat into my cave away from the sunlight.

Bone Theory

Hey, I'm still alive, busy but still around.

Anyways I got a lotta work to post up! but as usual... lazy blogging habits.
So a while ago I did a lookbook photoshoot for clothing label Bone Theory. First time in October for the 'Summer Days' collection which was mostly outdoors, and recently the 'Escape' collection. This time including the lookbook product shots at the studio.

Designer or Artist?

I know its been a while since my last post. A lot has happened throughout that makes me question why I do the things I do, and whether or not I want to continue doing them.

One thing about being a designer I often hear people describe it as a balance between business and art. Designers have their vision but they need to lower their ego and assimilate their work along with the clients briefs/demands... blah blah blah...

I've been there, done all that, and very much tired of it all!

It's hard to enjoy having my vision altered, and my work micro-managed only to be reduced as a designing tool. Sure I get paid well for it, but Oh. My. Gawd. I can feel my soul disappearing everytime someone tells me to "make the black even more black"

That being said, there's still have a handful of clients I still enjoy working with! Some trust me and give me a lotta freedom, others might be picky but in a way that I learn from.

So as I'll be heavily screening any new clients that come my way... my plan is to focus my energy on being an "artist" rather than a "designer"

because in the end, If you don't enjoy creating it, who's gonna enjoy looking at it?

*end rant*

Here's a recent artwork!

A piece depicting inner growth, and flourishing in the darkest of places. First personal artwork for this year!

Dayspring Spa

More branding work, for an upcoming Spa located in Malang. The idea was to develop a sleek black and white mood while keeping the icon of the logo fairly natural. The patterns on the logo represents spring as flowers and as water. The project is still under development, will update again once its all ready :D

There and back again

Hola! did you know I've created a facebook page for myself?! yeah its been updated as often as my blog... which is like:

RARELY!

Yeah I think I've mentioned my apathy towards social media before, as much as I wanna disappear and be unwatched, it seems clients and potential client wanna know whats up!

So I'm trying! really... just that nowadays it's a crazy juggle between motherhood and client work.

Here's something I did a while back I havent posted yet:

FORGOT TO UPDATE

Ahahaha I've neglected my blog again.... well its been a hectic few months. Wasnt easy working throughout my 9th month of pregnancy and the first month of my newborn.

That aside i've also been rethinking my identity as a graphic designer / photographer / illustrator. As much as i enjoy being a do-it-all, my energy cant keep up, and will have to tone down the type of jobs i accept and / or re-organize my identity.

So while I figure myself out and try to catch up with all my late emails :O, here's an old rejected logo concept. what a shame I planned on branding it with hand-drawn doodles in letterpress.

Ah well. save it for another day, another client.

The Fashion Festival Bali

Branding is not exactly the first thing in mind when I describe myself as a designer. Its a part of design I barely explore as I tend to steer towards publication / photography / illustration jobs.

But in a way, i'm glad to be given a chance to develop the brand identity of The Fashion Festival. The full outcome of this project was still nonetheless a team effort. The logo was already designed by MGROUP's creative director, and all I had to develop was the general branding identity. That is the whole 'green text over b+w photography' and developing the 'green plus' as an icon. After the initial branding was established, the rest of the team continued to apply it on the rest of the event collaterals.

Double Exposure

Experimenting with the "double exposure" technique. Yes I know, its been done to death! and done much better by other artists/photogs. But it's so intriguing I couldn't help but try it out!
